I realize that it's nearly 100 years ago...but does anyone know it the Corona family members related to the original owner/developer are still nearby in LH? This is for a possible oral history for the historical society,

The houses were not painted red, they were red because of the natural color of the wood. There was also a cowfield with a barn between "C" street and Ocean Blvd. (Lambert) and it was run by a man named Mike who drove a yellow/orange truck. I lived on "C" street until they knocked it down in 1964/65.

I believe there was another (?) Monkey Island up on Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood, now where the 101 Freeway is located. I got this address from an old matchbook.

Sorry, Desu. The Mobile Home Park is indeed the site of the old Campo Colorado. Just east of this area is the STILL STANDING barrio known as Campo Corona.

Tag updated with (hopefully) correct information. Let me know if any more tweaking can be done, Local Historian, and thanks for the heads-up.

I've reverted the tag back to the original for now. A cursory Google search (what alaprod should have done before screwing with the tag) brings up a lot of interesting information. Hopefully I or someone else can fill this tag out with more information.

P.S. I had a notion to tag "Campo Rojo" but, didn't want to get into it while some people get the new, "look what I can do" wiki-excitement out of they're system.
Lot's of interesting history in that little barrio, too.

Were there even orange groves ever here?
I know there were some to the east and, avacados to the northwest....just take a stroll up Hacienda and see what's left of those.....
Ah, more wiki-revisionist history at it's finest.

Yes, I'm not really sure how "citrus camp" equals "former orange groves" either.

I'm sorry. You're mistaken. This neighborhood is a small barrio that dates back to the 1920s. Take a look at the small cottages on 4th and 5th Avenues and McFadden that date back to that era.
Why did you edit the reference to "El Campo" with bad information?

This place is closed now. The city fought the owner since he bought the place and then finally bought it from the owner for 5,000,000 dollars. Now the city owns it
